Education

SPECIFIQ offers a range of interactive workshops for all ages led by our creative team and Associate Artists. The following workshops are currently available:

Acting on the Move

Associate Artist Ben Starr leads a practical workshop on performance techniques for promenade theatre. From reassuring a 'one-to-one' audience to managing a large, public crowd, this session explores and develops an essential toolkit for any promenade or site-specific performer.

This workshop lasts three hours and has a maximum capacity of 20 spaces.

Behind the Scenes

Drawing on her experience in both traditional and non-traditional theatre spaces, Becky Brown, SPECIFIQ's Creative Producer and professional stage manager, leads this workshop which introduces students to different aspects of 'behind-the-scenes' theatre. In addition to a brief history of stagecraft, this workshop will allow students to begin working with tools and techniques of theatrical production in a practical way.

This workshop lasts three hours and has a maximum capacity of 20 spaces.

Shaping Space

A workshop for designers focusing on interpreting space and shaping it for performance. Led by Artistic Director Oscar Blustin and one of SPECIFIQ's Associate Designers, this session investigates ways of manipulating a mobile audience by creating pathways through a space, and by shaping an audience's physical journey through a performance. Covering a range of topics from interactive and suggestive design to audience dynamics, this workshop is a perfect introduction to site-specific and promenade work.

This workshop lasts three hours and has a maximum capacity of 16 spaces.

Thank you, many times over; it was a delight having you here.

Stories and Spaces

A practical workshop for actors or students with SPECIFIQ director Oscar Blustin and Associate Artist Tobias Deacon, which explores the relationship between narrative and the space it inhabits. Through a series of exercises and guided discussions participants will be challenged to reconsider their attitude to staging and re-examine the ways in which they interpret and occupy spaces.

This workshop lasts three hours and has a maximum capacity of 16 spaces.

A truly enlightening and entertaining session - we can’t wait to have you back!
